The Pacifier

I have never really liked pacifiers, but lately they have become very essential. :) I didn't like them because I really hate it when kids ALWAYS have them in their mouth even when they are talking. Drives me nuts. We weren't going to give one to Allison because of that reason, but it has been a life saver in the sleep department. We found one that she actually likes (the MAM brand). We first gave her ones from the same brand as her bottles (Tommee Tippee) just so she wasn't confused with the different plastics. Those pacifiers were just so big and kept falling out.
So lately, we've been giving her the pacifier at night to help her get to sleep, naps, the occasional fussy moments and sometimes in the car. For nighttime, I used to sit up in her room feeding her for at least an hour (no wonder she was 10% for height and 50% for weight!) and then putting her down after that would take almost two hours because she just kept waking up. I think all she needed was that comfort from the sucking. Also, looking back at her newborn pictures, she already had her hand in her mouth. We think that she must have been sucking on it in my belly. I feel like a mean mommy that I never gave her comfort that she needed, especially since she was used to it in the womb! Now bedtime is soooo much easier!!! I can actually have an evening, or go to bed early! I guess the pacifier is much easier to take away than her hand so I think it's hear to stay for a while. But I don't think I will call it a binky. I don't like that word. Not even sure where it came from. :)
